Funded by businesses, KETI was established for the purpose of development of the electronics industry and support for SMEs and, developed GSM mobile telecommunication devices and,
focused on localization of devices and electronic components at the early stage.

In 2005, the headquarter moved to Bundang.
By boosting electronics/IT hybrid technology development, expanding global technology cooperation, advancing the business cooperation platform, KETI has become a global R&D research institute.

With the recent development of ‘COVID-19 epidemiological investigation support system’ KETI has drawn international attention, and transformed itself from an institute for electronic component, and renewed itself by renaming the official Korean name in 2020.

KETI has grown to the national 7th largest institute in R&D project scale among 41 public research institutes, striving to serve as an innovation maker in the 4th Industrial Revolution

For the past 30 years, KETI has worked hard but we cannot stay complacent.

KETI - 연구소의 싹이 트이다.

1991년 8월, 지금으로부터 25년 전 우리나라의 전자산업발전과 국산화를 위해 우리는 태어났습니다. 신생 연구소로써 연륜과 재원이 부족하던 시절, KETI는 국내 연구소 최초로 PBS 도입을 통해 어려운 환경 속에서 자생능력을 키워갔습니다.
1995년, 한국형 CATV 기기 국산화를 성공적으로 주도하였고, 1996년, 국내 최초로 GSM방식의 휴대폰 단말기 개발에 성공, 대한민국의 주력 상품이 되었습니다.
1998년에는, 세계 최초 HDTV수상기 칩셋개발에 성공하여 우리기업들이 세계시장을 Leading하는데 버팀목이 되고 있습니다.
이러한 초기 성장 과정에는, 많은 어려움이 있었지만 우리는 한마음 한 뜻으로 어려움을 극복해 내었습니다.

KETI – 새로운 출발, 연구원의 기반을 확립하다.

1999년, 전자부품연구원으로 명칭을 변경하면서, 연구원의 규모와 위상을 한 단계 격상시키는 ‘계기’가 되었습니다. 2000년, 기업지원정책 체계 또한 변화를 시도하였고, 연구원이 개발한 우수한 기술들의 기업으로의 이전을 통해 우리의 위상 또한 드높여졌습니다.
